New Poem #2

Here's my second poem.  I also see it being something that Hannah would illustrate.

All By Myself

While you were outside
Working in the yard,
I bathed the dog.
It wasn't that hard.

He was really messy.
All covered in dirt.
But I cleaned him off
By using your shirt.

We were in the bathroom
And he in the tub.
I put all the soap in
And gave him a scrub.

He did slosh around.
Water did overflow.
But don't worry.  I got it.
Mom will never know.

Look at me, dad!
I'm such a great help.
I did it, alright.
All by myself.

New Poem #1

Hey!  I know it hasn't been a week, but I wanted to post these poems.  I wrote them a while back and I felt like sharing.  I think I did it during this last summer.  They are definitely more cutesy.  I always imagined both of them being illustrated by my sister.  She's a great artist.  By the way, if you haven't' seen her work you ought to.  She's amazing.  Her website is http://hannahtuohyillustrator.blogspot.com/.  Check out her work.  Follow her blog.  Do it.  Now.  Please.  Thank you.  Yes.  Anyway!  Back to my poems.  I'll post one first and then the second one.  Let me know what you think!  :-)

I can do it!  You'll See.

Leave me alone.
Don't bother me.
Stop mom.
I can do it!  You'll see.

I'm making you something.
A tasty treat.
A chocolate cake.
Just something sweet.

I've added the eggs,
Sugar, milk, and flour.
In the oven it goes
For just half an hour.

I'll put on the sprinkles
And icing galore!
I'll taste so good, mom.
You'll keep asking for more.

For now it's my kitchen.
So please let me be.
Stop mom.  I can do it!
Just wait and you'll see!

A new poem...

Yay!  I'm back from sunny Florida and I've returned to cold Oklahoma!  :-P  Not!  I am ready for the colder weather to stop.  Spring needs to get started and summer should hurry up as well too.  I enjoyed the warmer temps and the sunshine.  It will definitely NOT be the last time I go to Naples, FL too by the way.  Anyway, while on vacation I wrote a poem.  It's not a long one, or the best, but it's new.  Two of us on the trip before we left were suffering from allergies and my boyfriend's sister also got a stuffed up nose on the trip as well.  I don't have a title for it, yet, but oh well.  :-P  Here it goes...

I do not like this.
Not one bit.
I do not like this.
Please make it quit.

My eyes are all sorts of
Itchy and puffy.
My nose is always
Runny and stuffy.

Get me a tissue or
Some medicine please.
Best make it quick cause
I'm going to sneeze!

My head is pounding.
I've got the chills.
Is this a fever?
Oh, I hate being ill.

I keep sneezing and
My nose is just... ick!
Can this go away?
I don't want to be sick.

I do not like this.
Not one bit.
I do not like this.
Please make it quit.

Why I said "yes"

Uh oh...  I messed up already on this blog.  I forgot to post this last Sunday.  Well, I'm sorry.  :-P  Midterm week, visiting friends last weekend, and getting ready for an upcoming vacation has made me busy, but here is a poem to make up for it.  Next week I'll be in Florida, so I may be late with posting another poem then, but hopefully I'll get another one up and ready soon enough.  Here's the poem I have for this week.  Enjoy.

Why I said "yes"

I stare at him from across the room.
Brown hair, brown eyes.
Eyes that glow back at you when you gaze into them.
This was the man I fell in love with.
The man I married.
The man who makes me feel complete.
Wanted.
Adored.
Whole.
I look upon him.  He looks back.
God, he is sexy.
He smiles at me and pulls me into his warm embrace.
Who ever thought that a simple hug could be so intimate?
I feel as though this is where I belong.
In his arms.
I never want to leave.
His arms around me make me feel safe.
Nothing can hurt me.
Nothing can separate us.
I love everything about him.
I suppose that's why I said "yes".

Desolate Splendor

So, here is another poem that I wrote for this poetry class I took last semester.  It was the first one I ever wrote without rhyme.  It was something new for me and also my poetry is usually about happy, light-hearted things.  This was a little more serious, a little darker I guess because of what it is titled and what it is also about.  But, when I wrote it, it was around Halloween, so that suited the time of the year just fine.  It's actually become a favorite of mine out of the ones I have written.  Enjoy.

Desolate Splendor

Darkness creeps over the grass and sod.
As fog
Slowly
Begins
To
Appear.
The moon rises to illuminate the melancholy of God’s acre.
Night is upon the world.  But who is here to see it?
No one knows what goes on during these hours of darkness
Only the lifeless tenants behold the moonlit beauty before them.
The clouds roll away to reveal the speckled firmament.
A vast nothingness.
A perpetual beauty.
Immeasurable.
It is a vision of unexplored uncertainty.
The mind is left to wander the celestial chasm and imagine what could be out there.
How sad it is that only the departed are awake to behold the allure of the night.
